Putin continues to "cut off heads"

Russian Major General, Valery Mumindzhanov, has just been arrested for corruption. He is accused of having received significant bribes, nearly 200,000 euros, in the context of government contracts for the production of military uniforms.

The purge is gaining momentum. On Monday, Major General and Deputy Commander of the Leningrad Military District, Valery Mumindzhanov, was arrested. Former head of the purchasing department of the Russian Ministry of Defense, is accused of having taken advantage of his status to favor several companies, in the context of calls for tenders, pocketing a few bribes in the process, reports the French media outlet La Dépêche.

The investigation also concerns Valery Mumindzhanov's real estate assets. All of his assets (located in Moscow and the Voronezh region) are estimated at approximately 1.2 million euros. The Russian justice system specifies that "the legality of these acquisitions is currently under review".

As a reminder, this arrest is not the first of its kind in Russia, it is part of a general purge movement that began a few months ago. The Kremlin, in April, had already arrested Timur Ivanov, former deputy minister of Defense. Minister Sergei Shoigu had been replaced by Andrei Beloussov, whose profile was more focused on the "economy".
