Numbers don’t lie, Putin’s army is decimated
Russia is believed to have lost more than 600,000 men since the start of the war in Ukraine, according to a Pentagon source.
The media outlet Defense News reported this figure as Russia prepares for a new conscription drive this fall, aiming to recruit over 100,000 men to send to the front lines.
Moscow was recently forced to relocate troops stationed on the eastern Ukrainian front to redeploy them to the Russian region of Kursk, where thousands of Ukrainian soldiers made a breakthrough several months ago.
"Russian losses, again both killed and wounded in action, in just the first year of the war exceeded the total of all Soviet losses in any conflict since World War II combined" said the official, whose identity has been kept confidential.
On the ground, Russian forces regained some territory by capturing the town of Vuhledar, located in the Donetsk region, last week.
Another Pentagon official argued that Russia will continue its strategy of sending more and more men to the front to gain ground.
"It's kind of the Russian way of war where they continue to throw mass into the into the problem, and I think we'll continue to see high losses," they said.
