NATO could have prevented war in Ukraine… but made a huge mistake
Jens Stoltenberg has admitted that NATO should have provided more weapons and military equipment to Ukraine in the months leading up to the Russian invasion.
In an interview with the Financial Times, the former NATO Secretary General said that the war between the two neighbouring countries could have been avoided if NATO had supplied significant arms to the Ukrainian military.
"I take my part of the responsibility," he told the British media. "I’m proud of what we have done, but it would have been a great advantage if it started earlier," he added.
The Norwegian politician revealed that he regretted not anticipating a Russian offensive in February 2022 and acknowledged that he should have sent weapons to the Ukrainian army several months prior.
"If there’s anything I in a way regret and see much more clearly now is that we should have provided Ukraine with much more military support much earlier," he said.
"I think we all have to admit, we should have given them [Ukrainian side] more weapons pre-invasion. And we should have given them more advanced weapons, faster, after the invasion. I take my part of the responsibility," he explained.
