Massacres, amputations, exile: the macabre tally of Ukraine's conflict
The war that began between Russia and Ukraine over two years ago is a human catastrophe for both sides, even if it's difficult to accurately assess the number of dead and wounded.
Ukrainian civilian losses have been counted by Kiev and the UN: around 15,000 people have lost their lives since the start of the war, including 3,000 executed in cold blood, after torture and rape in various locations.
For military losses on the Russian side, reliable data indicate 150,000 Russian soldiers killed, for a total hors de combat of around 300,000 men, close to the figure of 450,000 killed or wounded.
On the Ukrainian side, the losses are lower, but the country has less population. The figure of 150,000 soldiers killed or wounded is mentioned.
We can add the prisoners, missing, 30,000 on both sides, according to the Red Cross, while deserters are difficult to estimate, by definition.
In total, we would approach a million people killed, wounded or exiled.
These British or American data were disclosed in the Anglo-Saxon press, a few weeks ago.
