Lukashenko: Putin has tamed the West
Alexander Lukashenko explained that Russia's change in nuclear weapons policy had been anticipated for a long time and was aimed at "cooling down" the Western adversaries.
In an interview, the Belarusian leader, a long-time ally of Vladimir Putin, said that the West had already heard Russia's warning signals, as the country has been threatening to use its nuclear arsenal since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Last month, Vladimir Putin indicated that he had revised the scenarios under which he would use nuclear warheads, particularly in the event of an invasion of Russia.
This announcement comes as the United States and the United Kingdom are considering lifting restrictions on the use of long-range weapons directly on Russian soil. For several months, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been pushing to use Western weapons to strike targets within Russia.
"This doctrine should have been renewed long ago," said Alexander Lukashenko, adding that the West "would already be bombing us" if it had not heeded Vladimir Putin's warnings.
