“Ukraine faces toughest winter”
Fresh NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, warned Tuesday that Ukraine may be facing “its toughest winter” since the start of Russia's war of aggression in February 2022. The Dutchman said this from NATO headquarters in Brussels, with Finnish President Alexander Stubb at his side.
Indeed, Rutte fears that Russia's heavy bombing of Ukrainian energy infrastructure will have catastrophic consequences this winter. He therefore wants to ask for more military support at the next meeting in Germany of the so-called contact group for Ukraine.
The Finnish president called on NATO allies, especially the U.S., to lift restrictions on Western weapons supplied to Ukraine so it can also attack targets in Russia. “Ukraine should be able to fight this war without a hand behind its back,” Stubb said.
