“Third World War is possible, we need to come back to our senses”

Politician Charles Michel, in his capacity as European Council president, is sounding the alarm firmly. After all, according to the Belgian, the chances of a Third World War are increasing.

European Council President Charles Michel warned all countries Thursday before the General Assembly of the United Nations. He called on countries to come back to their senses and work better together. The world is “shaken by an explosive cocktail of shocks that are accumulating and accelerating” and “a Third World War is possible,” Michel's strong message sounded.

“I believe deeply in cooperation, between regional organizations, and relationships within the framework of the United Nations,” said Michel, who said the European Union has entered into numerous partnerships with regional groups in recent years. “We can change the course of history one more time, provided we man up. There is no fatalism. The future is not yet written. More peace and security is possible. More freedom, more solidarity is possible.”

Michel also reiterated the EU's unwavering support for Ukraine and lashed out at Russia and Iran. Those two countries “use the same recipes: nuclear threat, imperialist ambitions colored by nostalgia and support for terror groups to destabilize their region and the rest of the world.” He also called on China not to support Russia directly or indirectly in the war against Ukraine, but to “use its influence to enforce respect for the UN charter.”

In addition, Michel also called for abandoning double standards. By this Michel means that a human life should be worth the same everywhere and that a crime remains a crime no matter who commits it or where it occurs.
