“Russia invaded Ukraine because it's the weakest link” (D. François)
On LCI, the French all-news channel, Didier François, a leading reporter and consultant on international politics, gave his take on the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.
In the words of the leading French reporter:
“Russia has turned to a war economy to give priority to the production of materials, even if it means that everyday people have shortages in lots of civilian sectors.”
“They've concentrated on mass-producing robust weapons with ammunition and on mobilization. Before, they were able to mobilize 250,000 men a year. Today they mobilize 500,000 men a year, they double their capacity, they've organized themselves. they've put themselves in battle order.”
The question about the future of the conflict seems crucial:
“So are they preparing for a war beyond Ukraine? I've never believed that Ukraine was Ukraine in itself. The problem is, what does Russia want in Ukraine? They're sending us a message, they want to impose on us Westerners the fact that we recognize their right to do what they want, and they took Ukraine because it was the weak link."
