Kremlin continues to forcefully say 'NO': how long will Putin keep standing his ground?
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suggested that Russia and Ukraine could soon discuss an end to the war at a conference. But Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov immediately dismissed this suggestion.
Scholz spoke with Ukrainian President Zelensky and said this was “the time” to talk about how the two countries can reach peace more quickly. “There will definitely be another peace conference,” the Chancellor said. “And the Ukrainian president and I agree that Russia should be there.”
But in the Kremlin, they do not think the time is yet ripe for an end to the war.
“In terms of a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, there are no tangible contours in sight yet,” Peskov said. Zelensky and a number of European leaders are publicly speaking increasingly loudly about their desire for peace and sharing what this peace might look like. The Kremlin has also noticed this. “But we are not yet hearing from the country driving this process,” Peskov said, referring to the United States.
