Kamala Harris unsure how to handle Ukraine
Kamala Harris declined to negotiate peace in Ukraine with Vladimir Putin, stating that Kyiv cannot be excluded from the negotiation table.
In an interview on 60 Minutes, the current U.S. vice president and Democrat candidate for the upcoming presidential election emphasized that Ukraine must remain in control of its own fate as the conflict drags on for more than two years.
Kamala Harris also noted that any peace talks must adhere to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
"There will be no success in ending that war without Ukraine and the UN charter participating in what that success looks like," she said.
However, she shunned the question regarding Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, instead arguing that continued military support for Ukraine is necessary to help it withstand Russian attacks.
During the interview, Kamala Harris also responded to comments from her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, who claimed that the war in Ukraine would never have happened if he were in power.
"He talks about, oh, he can end it on day one. You know what that is? It’s about surrender," she said.
