Hungary begs Europeans to “move from war to peace”

Last Friday, Viktor Orban urged his European partners to “move from war to peace” in Ukraine.

The Hungarian prime minister urged Europeans to embrace and recognize Donald Trump's victory and the new positioning it entails. “The situation on the battlefield is obvious: it's a military defeat” for Ukraine, declared Viktor Orban ahead of an informal summit of EU heads of state and government in Budapest. He added that Trump “hates war”. Consequently, "for us Europeans, the situation is changing (...). Let's adapt quickly and move from war to peace”.

At the same time, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed their “determination to give unwavering support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people”. The two political leaders “agreed to maintain and strengthen their support with the aim of defeating the Russian war of aggression”.
