EU again imports more gas from Russia than from US
For the first time in almost two years, European Union member states again imported more natural gas from Russia than from the United States. Consultancy firm Bruegel reports this striking finding based on official figures.
During the second quarter of 2024 - from April to June - the European Union took more than 12.7 billion cubic metres of gas from Russia, and 12.3 billion cubic metres of US gas. Compared to the first quarter, deliveries from Russia did fall slightly, but those from the US fell more sharply.
