This Wednesday, October 9, the British intelligence services, in the person of Ken McCallum (boss of MI5), accused Russia of wanting to sow chaos in the United Kingdom and throughout the Old Continent.

In 2023, the number of investigations carried out into acts perpetrated by hostile states, sometimes through criminal groups or private intelligence agencies, increased by 48%, reports L’Express. “We are now faced with state-sponsored plots to commit assassinations or acts of sabotage, against a backdrop of war on European soil,” Ken McCallum stressed during a speech at the Counter-Terrorism Operations Center (in east London).

Iran, under close surveillance

The director general of domestic intelligence also points the finger at the increasingly numerous plots supported by Iran. Since 2022, plots on British soil have been intensifying "at an unprecedented pace and scale". These are "potentially deadly threats" to citizens and residents.

Tehran has dismissed these accusations.
