Alexander Lukashenko warns of potential nuclear response to NATO aggression
Alexander Lukashenko has threatened to use nuclear weapons against NATO in the event of an attack on his country.
Belarus, which doesn’t own nuclear weapons, has been storing Russian nuclear warheads on its soil since last year, while the conflict in Ukraine has been going on for more than two years.
The Belarusian head of state, one of Vladimir Putin's closest allies, has now warned Western nations as he spoke to students in Minsk, the country's capital.
According to the Belta news agency, Alexander Lukashenko explained that an attack on his country would mean the start of the Third World War and that NATO troops must not cross the Belarusian border.
"As I said at the Patriotic Forum [held on 17 September], an attack on Belarus will trigger the Third World War. Vladimir Putin recently confirmed this by changing the nuclear doctrine. An attack on Russia and Belarus will trigger a nuclear response", he explained.
"If we use nuclear weapons, they will do the same. And against Russia too. So Russia will use its entire arsenal. It will be a world war. The West doesn't want that. It is not ready for that", he added.
Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has constantly threatened to use its nuclear arsenal.
