1,000 days of war in Ukraine: 12,000 civilians dead and 10 million refugees

Tuesday marks exactly 1,000 days of war in Ukraine. Putin's ‘special operation’ took a high toll within the Russian and Ukrainian military, but also among the Ukrainian people.

The United Nations took stock of the human toll of the war: an estimated 12,162 civilians were killed, including 659 children, and 26,919 were injured.

The number of Russian soldiers killed is estimated at 78,000, the number of Ukrainian soldiers at 65,000.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine also triggered an exodus of refugees: some 10 million Ukrainians had to leave their homes. Some 6 million of them found shelter in another European country.
