Italian surfer (36) speared and killed by swordfish

Surfer Giulia from Turin, Italy, died in a bizarre manner off the coast of the Indonesian island of Masokut last weekend.

The 36-year-old Italian was surprised by an aggressive marlin while surfing. The animal suddenly jumped out of the water and pierced her chest. The woman was pulled out of the water by her friends and was still taken to the hospital, but there she died of her injuries. She was found to have a wound as deep as five centimeters.

A swordfish can grow up to 4.5 meters long and weigh up to 600 kilograms. They are not known for attacking humans, but they always pierce their prey with their spear.
