"I was wrong, what Putin is doing is pure evil". A clear message from Pastor Mark Burns after his visit to Ukraine.
Pastor Mark Burns is viewed as the 'spiritual advisor' to the American president. And Burns supported Trump's decision last month to temporarily suspend military aid to Ukraine. But after a visit to Ukraine, the American pastor has changed his mind. He saw with his own eyes the consequences of a Russian attack. He visited Buchha and the site of a missile strike in Kryvyi Rih, which killed twenty people, including nine children.
"My heart as a man of God leads me to repeat the message: that I was wrong. And the power of the cross teaches me to admit when you are wrong, to have a humble heart and to say 'I was wrong'", he admits.
Burns now advocates for more military aid to Ukraine. "I now believe that supporting Ukraine is putting America first", he told the Kyiv Independent in an interview.
"Attacking civilians, the elderly, women, children, hospitals, and schools goes beyond military advancement. It is simply pure evil. And that is what Vladimir Putin has done. And that is what he continues to do. It is evil. And it must never be allowed."
Witnessed the horror first-hand
"It is clear that my opinion has changed significantly now that I have visited Ukraine. I am known as one of the fiercest opponents of support for Ukraine", the pastor acknowledges. He says he needed to be there and to witness the devastation himself to shift his perspective. He now claims that supporting Ukraine is the real 'America First' approach.
Pastor Mark Burns also urges Donald Trump to send more tanks, fighter jets, and air defence to Kyiv. The pastor also emphasises that he still supports the American president.
