Adultery no longer criminalized in New York
A remarkable 1907 law has been scrapped in upstate New York. Will this revolutionize the Big Apple's dating scene?
This 1907 law made it punishable to make love to someone else while at least one of the people involved had a living spouse.
That law allowed the court to punish adultery with up to three months in jail. But that really rarely happened in practice. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul made the change official Friday by affixing her signature to the proposal.
The New York governor stated that adultery should “clearly” be handled by the parties involved themselves and not by criminal law.
