Ukraine blasts UN
Ukraine has criticized the UN Secretary-General’s decision to visit Russia following Vladimir Putin's invitation to attend the BRICS summit.
However, the United Nations has not confirmed Antonio Guterres' attendance in Kazan this week.
According to several Russian sources, Guterres has reportedly expressed his intention to travel to Russia for the event, which aims to present an alternative to the established global order.
"The UN secretary general declined Ukraine’s invitation to the first Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. He did, however, accept the invitation to Kazan from war criminal Putin. This is a wrong choice that does not advance the cause of peace. It only damages the UN’s reputation," the Ukraine foreign ministry said.
Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged local authorities to provide concrete proposals to prepare the country for another harsh winter under Russian bombardment.
A source close to the president's office told the Kyiv Independent that a comprehensive plan addressing military, economic, and political aspects will soon be drafted and presented to the public.
This plan is not an alternative to the "victory plan" already partially revealed by the Ukrainian leader but rather a national strategy to endure the coming winter.
