“Russian interference is unprecedented attack on our democracy”

Moldovan President Maia Sandu is unapologetic about the fraud allegedly committed during the referendum on whether her country should join the EU.

According to Sandu, criminals tried to buy 300,000 votes during the election. The gangs were allegedly funded by “a foreign power,” by which she refers to Russia. “Criminal groups working with foreign powers hostile to our national interests attacked our country with tens of millions of euros, lies and propaganda” to ‘plunge our country into uncertainty and instability,’ Sandu said.

With 97.84 percent of the votes counted, it appears that 50 percent of Moldova's residents voted against joining the EU.
