Abba to Trump: Don't touch my 'dancing Queen'!
ABBA rights representatives have ordered Donald Trump, at the quartet's request, to stop using songs from the famous disco group in his campaign. Mamma Mia!
ABBA's discography is full of songs that Donald Trump could use during his campaign to accompany his diatribes. "The Winner Takes it All", "Money Money Money", "Dancing Queen", "Tiger", "I Have a Dream", "Waterloo" or "Take a Chance on Me". In short, it's inspiring, to mock or to promote his program. But, using songs is forbidden without the agreement of the authors and rights holders. And Donald Trump, or at least those who manage his campaign, seem to have forgotten that.
Call to order
The record company Universal Music Publishing AB and Polar Music International AB have reminded that no permission or license was given to the Republican candidate's team. However, during Trump's performances, several ABBA songs were played, including "The Winner Takes it all", "Money, Money, Money" and "Dancing Queen". Since then, Universal Music has confirmed to AFP that it has asked Donald Trump's team to remove the songs in question and to no longer use ABBA songs in the future. This is not the first artist to have experienced this kind of problem with the former president. He has already had similar mishaps with Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Celine Dion and the Rolling Stones. He will therefore have to do without them, the law is the law.
