Angèle's dad, Marka, releases a new single and a twelfth album (VIDEO)
Father of Angèle and Roméo Elvis, married to actress Laurence Bibot, Marka comes down from the top branch of his well-stocked family tree to present us with a video clip for his new single “Comme le dit Orelsan”, prefiguring the release of a new album, his twelfth, entitled “Appelez-moi Serge”.
As you may have gathered, Marka is not his real name, but that's how things work in the golden family of Belgian showbizz, where (relative) discretion is prime.
Author, composer, singer, avowed stage performer and - more recently - actor, with a foray into the “Fils de” series where he made his screen debut as gangster Frank Pistone, Marka is a generous, sincere and versatile artist. More than 30 years after the release of his first opus (“Je vous dit Tout”), desire and pleasure is still there, titillated by the call of the stage and the constant desire to meet his audience.
Three decades on, a lot has changed in the world, but not Marka's contract with himself, who continues “to tell us everything, with a poise, a style and a voice that wonderfully conceals his doubts and anxieties”.
At 63, Marka still favors the short circuit - from producer to consumer - which guarantees the freshness and sincerity of his songs, of which he remains the sole craftsman.
So here he is at the helm of a collection of 11 new tracks, in which he takes stock, as a quirky crooner, of his life and desires, without denying anything of a roller-coaster past, where the glories of success (the fabulous destiny of the group Allez Allez, the cover of Mc Solaar's “Caroline”, “Accouplés”,...) have crossed paths with periods of decidedly leaner fortunes. At some point in your life, you're always on your own.
Today, Marka looks back on her past without concession, with a certain detachment and a good dose of humor. In his new single, “Comme le dit Orelsan”, he confesses that “it's not every day you get to party”, but that he wants to “keep the spirit alive” despite the reality of time inexorably stealing “our most beautiful years”.
