Plane in distress: Pilot abandons 6 passengers and seizes the only parachute
On May 15, a small Cessna 206 plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the Butler Memorial Airport in Missouri (USA).
Usually, these single-engine planes are taken out of the hangars for “personal needs”. That afternoon, six passengers, freefall enthusiasts, were on board. As the craft began its takeoff, things didn't go as planned.
The plane suddenly nosedived towards the ground. And “before the aircraft hit the ground, the pilot of the plane managed to jump out.” According to the Daily Mail, relayed by Demotivateur, there was only one parachute on board the plane. The pilot grabbed it and abandoned the six passengers.
The wreckage of the plane was found just a few meters from the runway, as were the passengers who luckily managed to jump out of the plane before it hit the ground. The pilot, meanwhile, had taken refuge in the airport hangar.
“An investigation has been opened by the Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to try to explain the causes of the crash,” says Demotivateur.
