K-Pop: airport to open VIP gate for celebrities

Everything about K-Pop and the Korean entertainment industry is a little over the top, including the way fans treat their idols. There are times when this becomes a problem, notably when fans gather to send off or welcome celebrities. This leads to crowd management problems, hassle for actual travellers and occasionally distress for the celebrities themselves.

Given the number of incidents in recent years, Incheon International Airport, a major travel hub in South Korea, has announced a new policy that has sparked discussions among Korean Entertainment fans: a dedicated gate for departing celebrities.

A Gate for Korean Stars

The designated celebrity gate will reportedly be an existing gate currently used by flight attendants and pilots. The airport hopes the new arrangement will provide a smoother and safer travel experience for both celebrities and regular passengers.

Others are not happy about the special treatment handed out to celebrities.

The move by Incheon Airport reflects a new reality in South Korea, where the entertainment industry has exploded over the past ten years. It will be interesting to see if other airports - such as Nice Airport that serves Cannes for the festival and other major events - will follow the example.
