Deadly "game" played by gang of young people on highway
"They were going to get married, these criminals destroyed lives." That was what the brother of Romanian truck driver killed by a manhole cover thrown at his truck said.
It was last summer, a group of youths threw a manhole cover from the top of a bridge on the E42, towards Namur in Belgium. The manhole cover went through the windshield and killed the truck driver instantly.
Maria, his wife, sitting next to him, was able to take the wheel and stop the truck.
Several people were arrested for their involvement in the incident. 3 adults were arrested after questioning for malicious obstruction of traffic resulting in death, while two minors were handed over to the juvenile court.
We now know that several similar incidents occur regularly. This is a "dangerous and deadly game" played by young people from the Andenne region, with the aim of damaging passing trucks with sewer covers.
His fiancée, Maria, has returned to Romania, and she's angry. She doesn't understand why young adults are not being prosecuted for murder. "They killed him, deliberately. And they destroyed me at the same time. I'm traumatized for the rest of my life"
