83 men helped themselves to an unconscious body, now she wants to look at them in the eyes
A 68-year-old man is accused of drugging his wife and handing her over to dozens of rapists.
The case is gripping. It takes place in a small country house in Mazan (France). For 10 years, the accused recruited men on the internet and brought them into his home at night to take advantage of his wife's body, which was completely lifeless. He filmed all the rapes and took part in them himself. Since 2013, he has used this ploy without ever arousing suspicion.
In November 2020, the man was finally imprisoned. His wife had then discovered the nightmare she had been living for years in her own home. "Her world collapsed that day", commented her lawyer Caty Richard. During an investigation, many “pornographic documents” were seized, including videos of the drugged and unconscious wife, in the hands of dozens of unknown persons. 83 perpetrators were counted, only 49 of them could be identified. All ordinary men aged between 20 and 70. The couple’s daughter, Caroline, testified on the set of Ça commence aujourd’hui, 10 years later. Disgusted: “In total, 83 men helped themselves to the body of an unconscious woman”.
The investigating judge believes that the suspects “couldn't have been unaware, given [the victim’s] inertia, that she was not in a normal state”. “Each individual had free will to stop their actions and leave the premises”, the prosecution stressed.
Trial
The extraordinary trial began this Monday in Avignon, and will continue until December 20 before the Vaucluse criminal court. 51 defendants will appear, including 18 in the dock reserved for prisoners. The victim's lawyer explains that "for the first time, albeit delayed, she will experience the rapes she suffered for ten years", because she has "no memory of them", reports L'Indépendant. In addition, she's giving up on the closed-door trial, determined to confront her attackers and look them in the eye.
