Which vegetables do you store in the fridge?

Life has become expensive, something that's proven when we go to do our weekly shopping. We don't always have the opportunity or time to go out and buy food products such as fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. Especially when we buy vegetables for a week or a few days, it's important that we know how and where to keep those vegetables fresh for as long as possible. We also want to preserve the quality of vegetables as much and for as long as possible. Not all vegetables need to be kept in the refrigerator, but for some, it's necessary.

Which vegetables are best kept in the refrigerator and which not?

-In the refrigerator
The vegetable drawer in your refrigerator is the ideal place to store fresh vegetables. The following vegetables are best kept in it: lettuce, endive, types of cabbage such as cauliflower, broccoli and sprouts, as well as leek and celery.
Lettuce and endive are best wrapped in damp paper. You can prick holes in leek and celery so that they stay fresh for longer. Mushrooms should not be stored in a plastic bag or container, but in a paper bag, otherwise they will go bad quickly. All pre-cut vegetables are best kept in the refrigerator, regardless of the type. It's best to keep them in their original packaging.

-Outside the refrigerator
Not all vegetables like the cold in the refrigerator and are better kept outside the refrigerator. Store them in a dark and cool place such as the cellar or shed. By doing this, they can be kept for up to 2 weeks. Foil, such as with cucumber, prevents it from drying out and is best not to be removed. Don't put vegetables such as peppers and eggplant on a tray with fruit or tomatoes. They are sensitive to ethylene, a gas that bananas, pears, apples and tomatoes emit. It's also best not to store potatoes and onions next to each other.

And what about tomatoes?
Tomatoes love heat. They come from a greenhouse or from warm countries where it's nice and warm. Tomatoes quickly lose their taste in a refrigerator. Therefore, store ripe tomatoes outside the refrigerator and in a dry place. Only put them in the refrigerator when they are already overripe.
