Brits furious over smaller beer glasses
“Now they want to touch our pint, too.” Nope, the British public opinion is not in favor of the plan to reduce the size of the traditional British pint. After all, British scientists want to reduce alcohol consumption in Britain in this way.
Regular consumption of alcohol has disastrous health consequences. But beer drinking is so woven into so many cultures worldwide that it is a particularly difficult addiction to beat.
However, researchers at the University of Cambridge discovered that drinkers tend to stick to a specific number of drinks when they go for a drink in a pub. And there, according to the scientists, lies an opportunity. Indeed, the study found that beer consumption dropped by 10 percent when the 1,700 participating pubs and restaurants scrapped that largest size, and used smaller glasses. Indeed, beer drinkers stuck to their number of drinks and didn't chatter about the smaller glasses.
Consequently, introducing smaller beer glasses throughout Britain would do national public health a favor and could roll back many cancers and other health problems. But the average Briton does not seem to relish such a proposal.... Even the British government has no immediate plans to introduce such a drastic glass trick.
“A smaller pint just means it will take longer to get drunk and forget the horror of this Labour government,” one beer drinker cynically responded on social media.
