Ukraine strikes Chechnya
Ukraine has carried out a drone attack on a university training Russian special forces in Chechnya, marking the first time Kyiv has targeted this southern Russian region.
The region’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, reported that the attack took place early Tuesday morning.
"At 6:30 this morning, the roof of an empty building on the territory of the Russian Special Forces University caught fire in Gudermes as a result of an unmanned aerial attack," he said.
Footage shared on social media shows flames and thick smoke rising from the military complex located 22 kilometers from Grozny, Chechnya’s capital.
"No one was killed or injured. The fire has been extinguished," Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on Telegram.
The Chechen leader noted that police have opened an investigation into the incident but did not specify the source of the attack.
The Russian Special Forces University, the country’s only private institution dedicated to training special units, has, since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, established a center specifically focused on preparing soldiers for deployment to the Ukrainian front.
