Russia pledges more powerful responses if attacked

Russia has vowed to respond with more power if the country is struck again, a Russian official said.

In a post shared on Telegram, Vyacheslav Volodin, the chairman of Russia's State Duma, referred to Ukrainian attacks carried out using American ATACMS long-range missiles as well as strikes conducted with Storm Shadow missiles.

"The authorization by the United States and its allies to use Western-made long-range weapons against our country once again confirms that NATO is at war against Russia. Without their military specialists and satellite data, it is impossible to aim and activate the weapons," he wrote.

"U.S. and British missiles have struck military facilities in the Kursk and Bryansk regions. The Russian Federation has repeatedly emphasized—and we have said this—that such actions will be met with a response. And a more powerful one at that. Politicians in Western countries need to ask themselves: are they ready for this and are they aware of the consequences?!," he added.

These comments come as Vladimir Putin announced that Russia had used an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time to hit a military site in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

During a national television appearance, the Russian president argued that he had the "right" to retaliate in this manner after Washington and London allowed the Ukrainian military to use their arsenal to target sites located in Russia.
