Putin : These demands must be fulfilled to have peace in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly open to peace negotiations with Donald Trump, provided specific conditions are met, according to multiple sources. Among his demands, the Russian leader is said to want Ukraine to abandon its bid to join NATO.
Donald Trump, who defeated Kamala Harris earlier this month in the U.S. presidential election, is set to take office at the White House in January 2025. During his campaign, the billionaire pledged to end the conflict in a single day, as the war approaches its third anniversary.
Sources close to the Kremlin have told Reuters that the Russian leader is willing to negotiate peace with Ukraine with Washington acting as a mediator.
Since February 2022, Russia has controlled the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, along with Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
Speaking anonymously, several sources indicated that the future of these four regions would be a key topic of discussion, and that a partial withdrawal of Russian troops from certain areas in Donetsk and Mykolaiv might be possible.
However, U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent decision to authorize Ukraine’s use of American weaponry in the Russian region of Kursk could complicate negotiations.
