Putin's new mercenaries
According to the Financial Times, Yemeni soldiers will arrive on the front line to fight Ukraine.
Russian armed forces have recruited hundreds of Yemeni fighters to fight in Ukraine, the Financial Times has revealed, linking the operation to the Houthi rebel group.
According to the newspaper, the Yemeni mercenaries claimed they had been promised high salaries and even Russian citizenship in exchange for fighting alongside Russian troops in Ukraine.
A company linked to the Houthi rebels negotiated the arrival of the fighters in Russia, who were then forcibly incorporated into the army and sent to the front line in Ukraine. According to the newspaper, the recruitment of Yemeni mercenaries shows that Moscow is increasingly close to Iran and its allies, such as the Houthis, in the Middle East.
