Putin promises bloody retaliation
This Sunday, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia’s Ministry of Defense is evaluating possible responses in the event of direct strikes on Russian territory by Ukraine.
As the conflict in Ukraine has stretched past two years, Kyiv continues to seek Western approval to use allied-supplied weapons to strike targets within Russia. However, permission for such actions has not yet been granted.
Moscow warned that if Western-supplied weapons are used on Russian soil, the Kremlin would view this as an escalation and consider responses, though these options have yet to be fully outlined, as the Russian president explained.
"(The Russian defence ministry) is thinking about how to respond to the possible long-range strikes on Russian territory, it will offer a range of responses," he told Russian state TV.
In recent weeks, Russian forces have gained ground on the eastern Ukrainian front, and North Korean troops have also reportedly been deployed in Ukraine.
Washington has not approved the use of its weapons for strikes within Russia, with some officials openly expressing doubts about the effectiveness of such actions.
Nonetheless, Ukrainian forces have improved their drones, enabling direct strikes on Russian soil. Recently, Kyiv has targeted ammunition and fuel depots in Russia as part of these expanded attacks.
