Kim’s nuclear dream: Putin will provide full assistance

Russia will reportedly assist North Korea in its pursuit of nuclear weapons in exchange for North Korean troops joining the conflict in Ukraine.

This week, the United States claimed to have evidence that North Korean soldiers have already been deployed, following similar announcements made by Ukraine and South Korea a few days prior.

Last summer, the neighboring nations, Russia and North Korea, signed an agreement to enhance cooperation, which included a pledge of mutual assistance in the event of an external attack. As relations between Moscow and Pyongyang continue to strengthen, an expert has warned that Russia is likely to help North Korea develop a substantial military arsenal.

Gabriel Jonsson, associate professor of Korean studies at Stockholm University, told The Guardian: "North Korea can also gain income and assistance to its missile and nuclear programmes from Russia."

During his closing speech at the BRICS summit midweek, Vladimir Putin was questioned by journalists about North Korea’s involvement in the conflict. He neither confirmed nor denied whether North Korea was actively fighting alongside Russian forces.

According to U.S. intelligence, approximately 3,000 North Korean troops are already on the battlefield in Ukraine.
