Kim Jong-un: Nuclear threat is looming
Kim Jong-un has said that he wants North Korea to achieve "nuclear deterrence," as he believes the country is increasingly vulnerable to threats from the United States.
This statement comes after Pyongyang accused Seoul of provocation, following South Korea's deployment of drones carrying leaflets denouncing North Korean propaganda.
During a visit to a military base, the North Korean leader said that the U.S. arsenal posed "growing threats to the security environment of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea."
According to the state news agency KCNA, Kim Jong-un expressed his desire to "modernize" and "strengthen" the country’s existing military bases.
North Korea is subject to international sanctions due to its numerous ballistic missile tests, as well as its continued efforts to develop a substantial nuclear arsenal.
A few weeks ago, Kim Jong-un declared that his country would use its nuclear arsenal "without hesitation" if it were attacked.
