Is EU also giving green light to Zelensky?
European countries should follow the American example and allow missile attacks on Russian territory. They should also supply missiles capable of doing so. So says Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's video address to the European Parliament Tuesday.
'Decision of each EU country individually'
The war in Ukraine has been going on for 1,000 days now. And a peaceful solution does not seem immediately in sight in the short term. Joe Biden's decision to allow Zelensky to attack targets on Russian territory with American long-range missiles is now already giving the war a new twist. Putin promptly adjusted his nuclear doctrine and is threatening louder than ever with nuclear weapons in retaliation. Meanwhile, European politicians are calling for EU countries to give Zelensky that same green light.
Is Trump pulling plug on aid to Ukraine?
“I hope all member states will follow the American decision,” Josep Borrell said before the start of a meeting with the defense ministers of the 27 EU countries. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs also noted that the decision belongs to the member states themselves, not the European Union. “I am convinced that they will follow the example of the United States and allow the Ukrainians to use weapons to fight the Russians within Russian territory.” Borrell also called on EU countries to continue their military support to Ukraine and not wait for any decisions by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Europe fears that Trump will diminish or even end support to Zelensky altogether.
