Germany lets Ukraine down

Germany remains skeptical about Ukraine joining NATO, particularly due to concerns over Russia's reaction and the potential for escalating tensions.

During a meeting attended by the Kyiv Independent, Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that many NATO member countries support Ukraine's bid. However, some countries, like Germany, remain hesitant.x

"Today we see support from France. We understand that the British will support us, and we believe that the Italians will support us," he said.

The Ukrainian president went on to argue that the U.S. stance will be "more positive" once the November presidential elections are over.

Ukraine submitted its application for NATO membership in September 2022, and Zelensky recently stated that his "victory plan," several points of which he has made public, includes rapid accession to NATO.

"This invitation, I believe, does not depend on Russia's opinion. When some other partners are convinced that they are stronger than Russia, then we will have a positive outcome in this sense," he added.
