Fuming NATO rebukes Scholz

NATO has strongly criticized a call made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Russian President Vladimir Putin late last week.

This marked the first communication between the two leaders in nearly two years. However, the call has drawn sharp criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who described it as "opening Pandora’s box," as well as from the military alliance.

Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, stated that Russia’s leader will not be deterred by phone calls but by tangible Western support.

"The attack last night [Saturday], one of the biggest in this war, has proved that telephone diplomacy cannot replace real support from the whole West for Ukraine. The next weeks will be decisive, not only for the war itself, but also for our future," he wrote on X.

These statements come as Russia launched a large-scale airstrike on Sunday, deploying no fewer than 120 missiles and 90 drones in the offensive.

In recent months, Western support has slowed, a point lamented by the Ukrainian president, as Russian forces continue to make gains on the eastern front. However, Ukrainian troops stationed in Russia’s Kursk region are still holding their ground against enemy offensives.
